Talented local performers to stage musical theatre concert at village hall

A musical theatre concert is being staged at Long Clawson next month to raise money for The Brain Tumour Charity.

A Night At The Musicals is directed by Katherine Vernon, who was recently the leading female role in The Melton Musical Theatre Company’s (TMMTC) production of Spamalot at Melton Theatre.

The cast is made up of friends she has met through local theatre groups, including performers from TMMTC’s productions of Shrek and the NODA‑nominated Jekyll & Hyde, as well as Stamford Showstoppers’ 2020 production of Chicago.

The concert will feature a mix of tear-jerking ballads, laugh-out-loud moments plus both group and solo numbers.

It includes songs from a variety of much-loved musicals, ranging from the classics to modern day releases, with audiences able to enjoy music from hit shows such as Hairspray, Rent, Gypsy and Oliver.

Tickets are on sale now for the show, which is at 7.30pm (doors open at 6.30pm) on Saturday March 14.

Katherine said: “We’ve worked hard to bring this concert together, and I’m incredibly proud of the cast.

"They have given up their Thursday evenings, many while rehearsing for other shows, to rehearse and to get this concert to such a high standard.”

The charity is very close to Katherine’s heart. She explained: "My Aunt Teresa was diagnosed with a brain tumour in 2016 and sadly passed away not long after.

"She loved to sing and dance and, so, creating a concert on what would have been her birthday weekend felt like the right way to honour her.

"The Brain Tumour Charity is 100 per cent reliant on donations.

"I’ve visited their research labs and seen first‑hand the impact fundraising has.

“Every ticket sold helps to support vital research and essential support services for those affected by a brain tumour diagnosis.”

Audiences can expect to see strong performances in the concert, a varied programme and the genuine camaraderie that comes from friends doing what they love and creating something for a cause that matters to them.

Tickets are available via Eventbrite, with links on the ‘A Night At The Musicals’ Facebook and Instagram pages.
