Coronavirus: Man in his 80s with Covid-19 dies at Melton Hospital

A man aged in his 80s who had tested positive for coronavirus has passed away at Melton Mowbray Hospital, it was announced today (Friday).

The patient had underlying health conditions, Leicestershire Partnership NHS Trust said this afternoon.

The news follows an update that the number of Covid-19 related deaths of Leicestershire patients at city hospitals has reached 258.

There have been more than 80 deaths of residents who have tested positive for the virus at county care homes, including nine in the Melton area.

On today’s news, a spokesperson for Leicestershire Partnership NHS Trust said: “It is with sadness that we confirm the death of an in-patient who was receiving care at Melton Hospital and had tested positive for Covid-19.

“The man, who was in his eighties and had underlying health conditions, died on Tuesday May 5.

“His family has been informed and our thoughts and condolences are with them at this difficult and distressing time.”

The University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust has released a statement on patients who have passed at at Leicester hospitals.

It says: “Sadly, we can confirm that 258 patients being cared for at our hospitals, and who had tested positive for COVID-19, have died.

“Two of those deaths has been announced today (Friday).

“The patients were in their 70s.

“Our thoughts and condolences are with the family and friends of the patients at this very difficult and distressing time.”
