Chefs from a Melton care home whisked up the vital ingredients needed to help residents enjoy National Cupcake Day last week.

The Amwell, a residential, nursing, dementia and respite care home in Asfordby Road, joined thousands of others up and down the country and raised £400 for the Alzheimer’s Society.

Sarah Tongs, head chef at The Amwell, and her team baked a cupcake for each of its residents, family members and friends.

The Amwell care home manager, Chris Batty, said: “We were very proud to be involved in our first National Cupcake Day. The Alzheimer’s Society undertake incredible work and, as a care home which offers dementia care, we wanted to do our bit by helping to raise money for such a worthy cause.

Dementia can affect anyone and currently there is no cure. The more money that can be raised, the better we can make the world for those suffering with this disease today, while hopefully helping to find a permanent cure for tomorrow.”
