Coronavirus: Melton police issue first fine for flouting restrictions

Melton police have issued their Fixed Penalty Notice for someone flouting new Covid-19 home isolation restrictions.

The ticket was given to a 38-year-old man in Asfordby Road in the town.

The government gave powers to officers to fine those who hang around away from their homes £60, with the fee being reduced to £30 if paid within 14 days.

If the offender does it again they will liable for a £120 fixed notice.

As Pc Davey Rawlings announced the first notice being issued, he posted on the Melton police Facebook page: “Please don’t make officers issue anymore. “No-one wants to issue tickets and they are used as a last resort.

“There are only so many warnings that can be given.

“Stay inside, stay safe, keep your pennies and don’t have the misfortune of getting a ticket.”
