We are hosting UK radio stations for special celebration

As the local radio station, we're often contacted by people from outside the area wanting information about Melton and the Vale of Belvoir.

We are very lucky to live here and it's a pleasure to welcome visitors, to show them around and promote this attractive part of the East Midlands.

A few weeks ago, we received an email from the Sunday Times asking for details about the Vale of Belvoir as a potential location for a lifestyle feature they were planning, so we organised a tour including some of the highlights.

And this week, we are delighted to see that the Vale has made the grade and is featured as one of the Best Places To Live 2026.

In June, there's another opportunity to promote Melton to visitors and to showcase its tourism potential as the Rural Capital Of Food.

Together with the Community Media Association, we are hosting a celebration event to mark the 20th anniversary of community radio in the UK.

As the first station to have launched when broadcasting regulator OFCOM licensed the then new tier of local radio in 2005, we are also celebrating 20 years on the air and Melton has therefore been chosen by the CMA as the location for the event.

We will be welcoming managers from stations from all over the UK to Melton’s council offices.

Pre-pandemic, we held annual get-togethers here for several years, inviting other stations.

These were always very well received, enabling people to network, create inter-station links, and exchange ideas and advice from their counterparts.

It is good to be able to revive the idea after a break, as people have told us they missed coming here - including the opportunity to purchase freshly-baked pork pies - and this year's event will be on a larger scale with up to 80 delegates attending.

There will be a number of radio-orientated exhibitors but it's also an excellent means to showcase Melton's tourism potential to the media from far and wide.

We will therefore set aside some exhibition space for businesses involved in food production, hospitality and visitor attractions to promote what the town and surrounding area has to offer.

We would like to hear from any businesses or organisations which would like to take part. Please email [email protected] for more details.
