Melton family business wins national roofing award
A family-run roofing company based in Melton Mowbray has won a national award for a solar roofing project delivered for Warwick District Council.
Stace Roofing Ltd was named winner of the Solar Roofing Award at the UK Roofing Awards 2026 — held at the Intercontinenatal at the O2 Hotel, London on Friday 8 May. The award, sponsored by SIG Roofing, is one of the highest national recognitions available in the UK roofing industry.
The winning project saw Stace Roofing install a new metal roof and 252 integrated solar panels on St Nicholas Leisure Centre in Warwick, working in partnership with Rugby-based main contractor Stepnell, its renewables arm Step Energy, and Warwick District Council. The 107 kWp solar installation produces enough electricity to power a significant proportion of the leisure centre's daily energy use — including its swimming pool, gym, and lighting.
The project was completed against a fixed grant funding deadline of 29 September, with the entire roof and solar system installed and generating power within just two weeks. There were no accidents and the project came in on budget.
Stace Roofing has been trading from Melton Mowbray since 1997 and has 40 years of family roofing experience behind it. Two pairs of Stace family members were on stage to collect the award — Managing Director Andrew Stace and his wife Jane, and Contract Director Greg Stace and his wife Mandie.

We're a Melton company through and through, and to bring this award home to Leicestershire means a great deal."
