Grantham and Melton Mowbray Slimming World members throw slimmed‑out‑of clothes for charity
Slimming World members across Grantham and Melton Mowbray have been raising money for Cancer Research UK by donating the clothes they’ve slimmed out of to the charity’s shops.

The Big Slimming World Clothes Throw with Cancer Research UK is an annual event that takes place in Slimming World groups across the UK. Members donate clothes, shoes and accessories that no longer fit — and that they’re confident they’ll never need again.
Across the three local groups — six weekly sessions in total — members have already collected around 65 bags, with a mixture of bags Abi has collected directly from members and many more being dropped off at the shops by members themselves (and donations are still coming in). All of this will help support life‑saving research.

Slimming World Consultant Abi Carter, who runs Monday groups in Melton Mowbray (5:30pm & 7pm), Tuesday morning groups in Grantham (8am & 9:30am) and Thursday evening groups in Grantham (5:30pm & 7pm), says she is incredibly proud of how her members have come together to support the charity and celebrate their own achievements.
She says: “It’s always a pleasure to see the excitement in group when The Big Slimming World Clothes Throw comes around. When you’re losing weight, it’s easy to focus on the number on the scales without noticing the non‑scale victories happening in the background — like dropping dress sizes or feeling more confident in your clothes.
“This event celebrates those victories. It’s all about members proudly donating the clothes that no longer fit while raising money for an important cause. It makes me so happy to see the confidence in my members as they commit to giving away their larger clothes, knowing they won’t need them again because they’ve made healthy changes they can keep for life.”
As well as raising funds for Cancer Research UK, the Big Slimming World Clothes Throw highlights how maintaining a healthy weight can reduce the risk of 13 different types of cancer. Overweight and obesity is the second biggest preventable cause of cancer in the UK, responsible for more than one in 20 cancer cases.
Abi adds: “Being overweight doesn’t mean someone will definitely develop cancer, but we know that losing weight and maintaining a healthy weight can help prevent a number of health conditions, including some cancers. I’m proud to host The Big Slimming World Clothes Throw in my groups to help Cancer Research UK continue its vital work.”
Over the years, Slimming World has raised more than £30 million for Cancer Research UK through campaigns including The Big Slimming World Clothes Throw and the charity’s Race for Life series. Last year alone, Slimming World members, Consultants and head office staff raised £3.1 million — and they’re aiming to make this year even bigger.
