This is the first time a Gruffalo sculpture has been installed at Hicks Lodge, giving visitors the chance to meet one of Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler’s much-loved characters in a completely new woodland setting.

The hand - and chainsaw - carved wooden sculpture will stand approximately 1.7 metres tall and will be located along the Dilworth Woodlands Trail.

Families are invited to come along, say hello to the Gruffalo character and enjoy a memorable day out in the deep, dark wood.

Children can let their imaginations run wild as they explore the forest, spot wildlife and discover everything Hicks Lodge has to offer, all while meeting a brand-new woodland friend along the way.

Lizzie Hartshorne, Recreation and Public Engagement Manager, says: ‘We are very excited to be welcoming Gruffalo to Hicks Lodge. The site has already recently benefited from lots of new improvements and facilities, and this is another great addition, further bolstering the great family friendly offer we have. We can’t wait to welcome lots of visitors to say Hello to our brand-new sculpture.’

From adventure play areas and natural play to safe off‑road family cycling and plenty of space to build dens, Hicks Lodge is the perfect destination for a family day out that everyone can enjoy.
