The leisure facilities, which are managed by sports and leisure operator Everyone Active in partnership with Melton Borough Council, closed in March due to the coronavirus pandemic. Phased reopening will begin on Saturday.

Councillor Alan Pearson, portfolio holder for Housing & Communities, said: “It is fantastic news that leisure centres can reopen, and we can see our residents get back to exercising in a leisure environment.

“Melton Borough Council has worked tirelessly to support Everyone Active through the period of closure and will continue to do so during the reopening phase of our leisure centres.

“Due to the restrictions that have been in place, many people feel as though their physical and mental health has declined. The reopening of our leisure centres is a positive step for our residents to get back into these active environments, where they can seek expert advice, start being more physically active and, in turn, feel better for it.”

Melton Borough Council has worked closely with Everyone Active during the pandemic, including offering a financial support package during the period of closure and beyond to ensure remobilisation of the leisure centres can take place.

The Government update on July 9 confirmed leisure centres were now safe to reopen facilities, providing they have strict operational measures in place.

Everyone Active procedures will ensure social distancing is managed throughout the centres and regular cleaning is maintained.

There will be a phased approach for the reopening of leisure facilities, with the Fitness Suite at Waterfield Leisure Centre and Group Exercise at Melton Sports Village to open on Saturday, and aquatic activity to restart from August 1, other services at the sites are to be reviewed.

Simon Fearn, Everyone Active’s contract manager, said: “We’re very much looking forward to reopening the centres and welcoming back the local community.

“We’ve been overwhelmed with the support we have received from customers and Melton Borough Council during these unprecedented times, and we’re so grateful.”
