This year’s Vale of Belvoir Conker Championships is set to go ahead as planned despite concerns over conker sizes.

Organisers have said that they are uncertain on how many larger conkers they will get, those that have fallen so far have been a bit on the small side.

The annual championships, staged in Long Clawson, will be held on The Pingle, next to The Crown and Plough, on Sunday.

Returning will be the open males and females competition for the title of King or Queen Conker (£5 to enter), and the junior tournament for boys and girls under 14 (£2 to enter).

Winners will qualify for the World Conker Championships on October 14.

New this year is a team competition. Unfortunately entry for this format has already closed. There will be a prize for the winners and best team name.

The commencement of conkering will start at 2pm. Registration can be done in advance at the pub or on the day from 1-1.45pm.

All are welcome to attend, no previous experience is necessary to take part.

The 35th Vale of Belvoir Conker Championships is a fundraiser for Cancer Research UK.
