Melton's first country music festival cancelled due to low ticket sales

The first ever country music festival in Melton Mowbray, which was due to be held next month, has been cancelled due to low ticket sales.

Melton Mowbray Town Estate said this afternoon (Tuesday) that it made the decision ‘with deep regret’ and it said it remained committed to hosting live music events in Play Close Park.

Its second annual Melton Ska Fest, featuring SKA, 2Tone, Rocksteady and Reggae artists, is still scheduled to go ahead in the park on July 25.

Full refunds have been given to all who bought tickets to Country on the Eye, which was to take place on the weekend of June 12 and 13.

The Town Estate said in a statement that ‘as a charity, the Town Estate needs to be conscious of how it deploys its resources’.

It added: “This decision has not been taken lightly.

“Despite the incredible enthusiasm from artists, fans, and local partners, low ticket sales meant it would be financially impossible for the Town Estate to deliver the event.”

Dean Rees, CEO of Melton Mowbray Town Estate, said, “We remain proud to support cultural and community events that bring people together and celebrate Melton’s vibrant character.

"The Estate will continue to partner with local organisations to deliver memorable occasions for residents and visitors alike.”

“We thank everyone for their understanding and look forward to welcoming future events to the Town Estate, and our Summer Season of free live events and music, held in the Events Village located in Play Close Park, will continue throughout the summer,” he added.
