Melton act victorious in charity talent contest

On Saturday, the group, minus their usual drummer electrified the audience with a high energy performance in a competition which the four judges said was an extremely high standard.

The event staged at the Royal British Legion Club was held in aid of the Sue Ryder Foundation - a charity which provides hospice and neurological care for people facing a frightening, life changing diagnosis.

It featured four talented singing acts of all ages competing for a cash prize of £100 and a coveted trophy as well as having their winning song recorded by community radio station 103 The Eye.

Organiser Graham Flinders said: “The evening was brilliant and a sell out. The audience were treated to three hours of entertainment for just £3.

“Finalists were Emily Brown, Shannon Horton and David Newton. The judges were Steve Johnson, of 103 The Eye, Melton singer Howard Rose, Brian Johnson secretary of Melton’s Royal British Club and Noel G of Noel Gee Associates Ltd.

“There was also a raffle with some astute prizes and there was two cabaret style performances from Howard Rose and Grantham vocalist Sharna.

“I’d like to thank the audience, businesses who donated raffle prizes, the judges, the two cabaret acts, Morrisons who donated hot cross buns, Hannah, James and Angela.

Impressed by the number of talented people who entered, Graham said he hoped to repeat the event next year.
