Gymkhana raises funds for Belvoir horse riding charity

The afternoon was organised by Tarmac’s Barnstone Cement Works and held on the field adjacent to the plant.

The day raised £100 for the charity which is based in Colston Bassett and offers equestrian opportunities for adults and children with disabilities.

Josie Morrissey, environmental co-ordinator at Tarmac’s Barnstone Cement Works, said: “We would like to thank everyone who got involved in helping us making this a really successful and enjoyable day.

“We were really keen to support Riding for the Disabled in Colston Bassett as they do some excellent work in helping young people and those with disabilities to learn to ride.

“The event was a great way to bring members of the community together to have fun and raise money for a good local cause.”

This year’s fundraiser involved two showing classes, six gymkhana games, clear round jumping and a barbecue.

Lesley Davies who runs the Belvoir Vale Riding for the Disabled Group and is a qualified county coach for the North Midlands RDA, said: “We’d like to thank Barnstone Cement Works for their hard work in putting on this event.

“Spending time with the horses can have a huge impact on the self-esteem of young people and those with disabilities, and provide an interest and love of animals for life.”
