Families enjoy fun attractions at Syston Carnival despite worst weather in years
A big Carnival HQ Marquee was set up so that some of the arena events could be moved indoors and so families wouldn’t get soaked.
The event, held in Central Park, was attended by the Lord Mayor of Leicester and included a demonstration from the Silver Sabres display team, a performance from the Syston Scout and Guide Band, commercial stalls, a fancy dress competition and a prize draw.

Hide AdBob Hendry, who has organised the event since 1977, said: “Unfortunately not as many people turned up as we would of liked but those who did attend went away happy.
“This was only the third time ever that I can remember that the weather wreaked havoc with our programme schedule.
“Inside the Carnival HQ Marquee we managed to put on the homemade cooking competitions for adults, and the kids took part in a space craft and rocket making competition.
“It was a shame though that the children couldn’t go outside and play on the swings, slides and other fairground rides we had organised.
“Overall, I can’t complain. Although profits are obviously going to be down this year, we still managed to put on a good show.”
