The fun navigational challenges were developed by British Orienteering and organised by Melton Borough Council in conjunction with Leicester-Shire & Rutland Sport and Melton Police.

They offered children the chance to gain new skill such as map reading, decision making and working as a team.

Emma Geary, physical activity and development officer at the council said: “We ran two sessions at different parks. Children were given a map and answer sheet and had to find clues to navigate their way round a specially layed out course. At the end of each day they were presented with a certificate.

“We had around 168 people turn up at Wilton Park and about 80 people attend at Melton Country Park. The weather wasn’t great so we were relieved that plenty of families turned up to each Xplorer event.”
