Beacon lightings will mark Queen's 90th

Beacons will be lit around the Melton borough in celebration of the Queen's 90th birthday.

The symbolic events will take place at Melton Mowbray Country Park, Bottesford and the recreation ground at Twyford, on Thursday April 21.

Beacons will be lit by Mayor of Melton, Councillor Jeanne Douglas, and by members of Melton Guides, at the country park at 7.30pm.

It will be preceeded by children’s activities from 5.30pm, musical entertainment and refreshments.

There will also be a communal singing of the National Anthem and a reading of a commemorative message from the Prince of Wales.

The three Melton borough locations are some of the more than 250 locations in the UK where beacons will be lit on the Queen’s 90th birthday.

Windsor Castle is due to host four nights of entertainment in May to mark the occasion, with some of the nation’s top entertainers and a programme of pageantry.
