Windmill Wheels riders on song at Junior CiCLE Classic

Windmill Wheels CC riders George Sewell and Ben Hardy turned in pleasing performances at the Junior CiCLE Classic.

The junior version, like the men’s race, is a national event and draws top riders from all over the country.

Old Dalby rider Sewell and Hardy, his team-mate at the Wymondham-based club, were in good form going into the race with results to back that up.

As the race unfolded the pair rode strongly near the front of peloton, avoiding the crashes and keeping safe.

Hardy was key in the race’s decisive breakaway as they steadily increased the gap to the bunch.

Sewell felt fresh and able to bring back the break, but instead stayed towards the front, letting other teams do the work while knowing his team-mate was up ahead in a good position.

The breakaway riders stayed away and a further splinter group of six, including Hardy, rode away.

In the last 2km, attacks were constant among the new leaders and the Windmill Wheels (former Rutland Rouleur) rider did well to mark them.

Hardy, from East Bridgford, grabbed a well-earned fourth place in the sprint finish, completing the 87km in 2hr 11mins.

George sprinted in with the peloton, 45 seconds behind his team-mate.
