But the closest the rest of the Belvoir squad came was on the fourth rink as Daphne Birch, John Mackley, Martin Porter and John Lamber went down 18-15.

It was a lot more conformable at Barnstone as Vale defeated the home side 65-50 thanks to a fine effort from John Bloor, Sue Mackley, Martin Porter and Gordon Crooke.

They hammered the hosts 31-10, allowing Belvoir to lose by three shots on each of the other two rinks.

Belvoir have two more matches this week, bringing their outdoor season to a close for another year before start indoors on September 17 with a trip to Potters at Hopton by Sea.
