Stute darts tournament raises funds for Rainbows

The New Year Knockout drew a high calibre entry which produced good quality darts all the way from start to finish.

After four hours of competition, the semi-finalists emerged with Ned Mahoney from Cambridgeshire taking on Grantham’s Adam Beck in the first tie.

Beck won two of the first three games before Mahoney fought back to level at 3-3.

But the Lincolnshire thrower then found his form and reeled off the next three legs to book his place in the final.

In the second semi-final of the day, Adam Rudd met Nigel Long, and with both players level at 5-5 the match went to a final game decider.

Both players missed checkouts, but Rudd finally won through 6-5.

The final was a mouthwatering contest between easily the tournament’s best two players. Rudd had dropped just five games during the day, while Beck had lost only three.

The early stages of the final belonged to Beck who established a 3-0 lead within just six minutes.

Rudd, playing exceptionally well, lined up finishes in the next two games, but big out-shots from Beck pushed him to the verge of victory.

He then completed a whitewash 7-0 win after a very high quality final.

Organisers wish to thank everyone who took part, helped out and provided support for the event which raised a total of £200 for Rainbows.
