On Friday the Rugby Football Union released the final standings for this season, following the campaign being brought to an early halt by the coronavirus outbreak.

A statement by the RFU read: “Following the early end of the rugby season in England as a result of COVID-19, The Rugby Football Union has announced the final league positions.

Proposals from the RFU governance committee to conclude the season for those leagues at both professional and community level were yesterday ratified by the RFU Council.

“It was agreed that final standings for the Greene King IPA Championship and men’s and women’s community game would be calculated on a best playing record formula maintaining promotion and relegation for those leagues.”

The completed league table sees Syston finish on top of the Midlands One East table, with 127.64 points.

Oundle, who will also be promoted, are second (106.36) with Derby (103.21) third.

Melbourne, Olney and Wellingborough finished in the bottom three and will be relegated.

Syston had won all 21 of their league games played in the campaign before action was halted.

However, Melton have been relegated.

They were placed second-bottom of the Midlands 2 East (South) on 23.22 points, where they were sat before action stopped.

Stewarts & lloyds finished bottom with Leighton Buzzard and Belgrave promoted.
