The countdown has begun to the reopening of Jackson’s snooker lounge which hasn’t seen a ball potted for almost six months.

The government’s plan for ending lockdown means the King Street venue should be able to get back to business on Monday, May 17.

Since Ben Jackson took over the club in December 2019 it’s been closed more than it’s been open because of the Coronavirus crisis.

It’s been a difficult and worrying time with bills still to pay and the prospect of having to restock the shelves as most of the drinks and snacks have gone out of date, but it’s not all doom and gloom, says Ben.

“Looking at the positives it has meant we have been able to carry out much needed renovation work while the building was empty.

“The club is in far better shape than when I took over and we’re now looking forward to welcoming people back in, hopefully without all the restrictions we had last year.

“Our landlord has been flexible and with the help of grants and loans I’ve been able to keep on top of things.

“We’ve had a few members get in touch asking if there’s any way they can support the club, so to help cash flow we’re offering extended membership for those who renew their membership early.”

And as a new parent Ben said lockdown has had its benefits. “Having to stay at home has meant I’ve been able to spend more time getting to know my son Louie.”
