Due to the area being placed in tier three by the Government, and the accompanying restrictions, the venue is expected to remain shut until ‘mid-January’ at the very earliest.

A statement read: “At a meeting of the board of directors, the directors agreed that it was unlikely that any review of the national tier system on December 16 would result in the club being able to re-open before Christmas.

“It was decided to review the situation at a board meeting (week commencing January 4) with the realisation that this would make the earliest date for any possible re-opening January 11

“The directors and bowls management executive committee much regret this extended closure and are committed to re-opening the club as soon as it is obvious that it will be able to remain open for an extended period.”

The club also thanked its members for their support in such a difficult period.

“The directors would like to thank you for your support during this difficult time for all of us, and particularly to those of you who have paid your subscription for 2020-21,” the statement continued.

“This income has helped the club keep ahead of the continuing outgoings throughout the closure period.

“The club will obviously continue to maintain both office coverage and the building systems throughout the closure in order to ensure that we are in the best position to re-open quickly once the imposed legislation and economic conditions permit.

The statement added: “Despite the advances in the development of vaccines, it is likely that further disruption to our ‘normal’ operation will continue through to Easter.

“Our precautions will continue in place so that we can offer a Covid-secure environment within which you will be able to enjoy our sport.

“We hope that you manage to look after yourselves and stay clear of the worst effects of the virus.

“Helping each other in these times is important. If you know of anyone who may need assistance, either physically or mentally, and you can offer that support safely, then please make the effort to do so.

“Looking forward to a happier 2021.”
