Last-gasp qualifier shades Lake View final by an ounce

The Nottinghamshire angler sneaked into Saturday’s final just three days before at the 55th and final qualifying match of the Middy MX Luggage Autumn/Winter series.

Arme finished down in 12th at the midweek match, won by Mick Beckhurst, but with all 11 above having already booked their places, went through to the weekend showdown.

And fate was on his side once again on Saturday when he won the £1,000 first prize by the smallest of margins.

He landed a total weight of 67lb 3oz from peg three on stream, just a single ounce more than runner-up Daz Sly who took top weight on river from peg one.

Dave Smith completed the top three positions, taking home £250 after clinching top weight on canal with 61lb 11oz from peg 13.

Jason Farmery won the lake on lagoon with a haul of 52lb 9oz from peg four for eighth place overall.

In the overall Middy MX Luggage Autumn/Winter Weight League, Steve Haywood edged a close battle with Andy Bailey.

His total weight in the series of 674lb, pipped his nearest rival by just seven pounds.
