Defeat for Belvoir Vale in bowls friendly

Belvoir Vale Bowls Club were beaten by visitors Fosseway in a friendly match on Sunday.

The away side left Hose with a 64 shots to 49 success.

Belvoir Vale’s Phil Bailey, Sarah Porter, Geoff Harrop and Lawrie Pugh claimed a 25-9 victory as they faced S. Harris, K. Odell, K. Hope and K. Sewell.

However, it was defeats for the other two rinks.

Sue Mackley, Mick Chidgey, Sue Britton and Martin Porter lost 20-15 to R. Hoyland, D. Hings, A. Sewell and I. Cazer while Viv Pugh, Jenny McCulloch, Chris Gorman and Gordon Crooke missed out 35-9 against K. Tuckwood, L. Jackson, J. Thompson and B. Everett.

The club’s next weekend friendly is not until June 6, when they host to Oakham.

Next weekend’s match was cancelled due to Covid and the following two weekends will see the Australian Pairs club competition and Open Day take place.

The Open Day will be held on Saturday, May 29 from 2pm at Hose.

It will coincide with Bowls England’s Bowls’ Big Weekend, where they are trying to encourage more people of any age and ability to try their hand at the sport.
