Mark Purslow started his 2021 race season at Mallory Park this weekend in the Classic Motorcycle Racing Club season opener.

Riding the Melton Mowbray-based Motorcycle Photography Racing Team, FZ750 Yamaha in the Pre 87 Superstock Class, the 2015 Lightweight Manx Grand Prix winner turned his hand to circuit racing this weekend.

Riding a newly built bike, on a new circuit for Mark was always going to be a challenge.

However, this was complicated by treacherous wet conditions during Saturday’s practice and qualifying.

Mark put in a stellar performance, qualifying in fifth place for Sunday’s races.

Race was, still under tricky wet conditions, saw Mark adjusting the new bike, which was struggling for rear grip.

He finished sixth place, lapping quicker every lap and his fastest lap within half a second of the race winner.

Race two was on a dry circuit and Mark got the hole shot, leading into the first corner with the pack on his rear tyre.

Mark was still holding the pack at bay at the end of lap four but he found the bike under geared as lap times continued to fall.

Now exiting the fast right hander onto the back straight already flat out in top gear, he slipped to fourth by the final flag.

Next up for Mark and his team is action at Wales’ Pembery Circuit on June 12 and 13.
