Melton Town picked up a point after a feisty 2-2 draw with visiting AFC Mansfield in the UCL Premier North on Saturday.

Melton came out of the traps with some good one touch football and the first chance came within five minutes when a ball over the top saw Wakley go clear, but he was driven wide and finished with a tame shot.

Two minutes later another ball over the top had Wakley again go clear after Taylor misjudged the high ball, but this time he made no mistake as he fired low past Tupton to put the hosts in the lead.

A long clearance from the Melton keeper picked out Wakley whose turn and shot needed a good save.

Then just before the half-hour Mansfield were given a drop ball which was floated into the box.

It appeared that Perkins was pushed to the floor and, while the home team were busy appealing, Kaylum Mitchell pounced on the loose ball to smash it into the open net.

In the 36th minute a bizarre incident saw the visitors’ keeper pick up the ball and was blocked by Wakley.

Instead of moving around him he used the ball to hit the top of Wakley’s head and the referee gave a penalty. Toby Fura stepped up to send the ball down the middle.

The second half was an end to end physical affair with Mansfield making some good chances.

Just after the hour a free kick for Mansfield was fired across the box and met by Mitchell, whose shot went inches over.

A minute later and a defensive mistake in the Melton box had Westztort beating two players before finding Ingram unmarked, his low shot was blocked by Perkins before he again fired in the rebound only for Hurst to clear off the line.

The visitors then had a free kick on the edge of the area that needed a diving one handed save from Harrison to prevent the equaliser.

But in the 81st minute a clumsy challenge from Gilchrist gave the Bulls a penalty and Ingram sent Harrison the wrong way to make it 2~2.

The game became a frantic end to end affair with both teams looking for the winner.

In the 90th minute a run from Dolan saw him beat two defenders only to see his low shot touched onto the post and wide.

Then deep into injury time a ball was played over the top of the Melton defence and Goddard went clear on goal, only to sweep his effort over the crossbar.
