Melton table tennis ace nets Special Olympics medal treble

Melton table tennis ace Jeffrey Jarvis bagged a national medal treble from the Special Olympics event in Crewe.

In the men’s singles he played against Jon Baker, from the Isle of Wight, beating him 11-9, 11-5, 11-9 before edging out Milton Keynes opponent Simon Green over five epic games, 11-9, 8-11, 6-11, 14-12, 11-3, to win the gold.

He then partnered Simon Green in the men’s doubles to take silver by beating the identical Feltham twins, from Bournemouth, and a pair from the Grampian region in Scotland.

Their only defeat came against Leicester’s Patrick Cox, and Peter Millar, from Ellesmere Port, 9-11, 11-2, 11-4, 11-3.

The last competition of the weekend for Jeffrey was the mixed doubles when he partnered Jacqueline Smith, from Chelmsford.

They were beaten by Patrick Cox and his partner Jessica Bromley, from Wolverhampton, but defeated a Grampian team and another pair from Wolverhampton to take a second well-deserved silver and cap an excellent weekend.
