Melton searches for future Olympic cycling stars

SATURDAY, 1pm: East Midlands Regional coach Dean Hughes, with the help of Melton Olympic Cycling Club's youth development coach Jeff Snodin completed a four-day Summer Go Ride cycling scheme at King Edward VII School.

An eager group of 24 young cyclists, aged seven to 16 years, took part in mountain bike and cyclo-cross races, tackled the skills course and competed in grass track events, culminating in the Tour de King Edward relay race.

On day one the group split into four teams and competed for points in the various activities, with an emphasis on teamwork. Points could also be earned for impressing the coaches or helping team-mates.

Team Thunder won an extremely close competition with all four teams separated by only a few points.

Future Go Ride activities include mountain bike coaching at Melton Country Park on Saturday on the course to be used in the Go Ride mountain bike racing events on August 29 and September 5.
