Both sides turned in great performances at home to Leicester Forest on a sunny Sunday and were up for a battle to avenge their last defeat away to the same opponents.

In their first games, Tigers overpowered Leicester East and ran out 8-0 winners, while the Lions followed suit with an almost identical winning margin, 8-1.

Both Melton sides played flowing rugby and tackled as if their lives depended on it, to the delight of supporters and their coaching team.

The second set of matches saw Leicester Forest mix their teams up, aiming to put Melton off-balance, but the hosts were victorious again.

In a tighter contest, the Lions won an end-to-end game 6-3 with every player contributing to the team effort.

But the Lions were unstoppable and went on to record their biggest victory by 10 unanswered tries thanks to some superb ball carrying and passing.

The under 9s now go off to enjoy Easter before returning for a crunch fixture against Hinckley ahead of their meeting in the County Cup final. The teams will then set off on their tour to Butlins, in Minehead.

Head coach Paul Moore said: “We are on an amazing roll. It’s great being at the club and around the teams, I would like to say a massive thank-you to all the supporters, my coaching team and of course the boys.

“At this rate I may even outshine Claudio!”

* The under 10s played Leicester Forest East on the first day of spring with the sun shining.

Sadly the sun wasn’t shining on the team and they lost 10-1 and 10-3.

They showed good defensive play despite a couple of players picking up minor knocks.
