Melton RFC Second XV slip to Hinckley loss

Melton RFC Seconds were disappointed with Saturday's display against Hinckley Thirds and seemed a totally different team to the one which had performed so well seven days before.

They fell behind to tries from two lineout drives which put them 14-0 adrift and strong runs from Jeremiah, Meakin and Freeston were Melton’s only answer to an older and wiser side.

The hosts used the sticky muddy conditions much better to protect the ball and get the better of the referee’s decisions.

A successful penalty put Melton further behind at the interval as Hinckley went in 17-0 ahead.

The half-time pep talk from skipper Greaves had the required effect as Melton took the game to Hinckley.

And inside five minutes of the second half, McGee worked his way over for a try which Conboy converted to reduce the deficit to 17-7.

Melton again gained a foothold in the opposition 22 and Meakin bounced a couple of players off and went over to make it 17-12 and the visitors were back in the game.

Supporters felt that one more score and Hinckley might just crumble, but despite the hosts being reduced to 14 men, Melton could not exert a period of attacking pressure.

Hinckley then added a third try to take the game away from Melton.
