Melton Mowbray Tennis Club's Saturday Superstars collect Christmas trophies.

Melton Mowbray Tennis Club's Saturday afternoon Superstars turned out for their annual tournament and end of year results on a rare mild afternoon last weekend.
With fifteen players entering the tournament the format was simply having different partners in each round of the four rounds of seven games with sudden death at deuce.
As usual play was competitive with lots of jovial banter amongst the players who were getting into the festive spirit.
After many closely fought tussle’s the final analysis showed just how close the tournament was just five games dividing the top five players in the men’s section.
At the end the winning trophy was held aloft by Toby Howe with 20 points,
Runner up was his father Chris Howe with 18 points followed closely by three players David Owen, Peter Lovegrove and Gareth Jones all on 17 points .
In the Ladies section Michelle Heaton topped the pile with 19 points followed closely by runner up Val white on 16 and Bridget Ingle on 15 points. Then it was on to the team competition spread throughout the season and this year covered 33 matches with Peter Lovegrove and Neil Ingle captaining the teams having taking over the reins from 2024 retiring captains Ash Patel and Mo Reza.
Well once again the matches see-sawed throughout the year with first one team in front and then the other hitting a winning run to go in front.
Just when it looked like the prize would be shared this year Peter Lovegrove and his team got their noses in front to take the title by a narrow 17-16 margin.
In the individual scores throughout the year their was some consolation for David Owen who was part of the beaten team, when he collected the trophy for most sets won over the year with a total of 60.
Neil Ingle and Paul Ingle collected 48 wins each and Mo Reza 45 wins.
On the ladies individual side Michelle Heaton collected her second trophy of the day notching 52 sets over the year with Bridget Ingle a very close second on 50 wins.
Prizes were presented by club coach Brent Horobin who was keen to highlight the wonderful spirit of this group and how welcoming they are to new members that have joined in throughout the season since the club was formed seven years ago.
