This week saw a softly, softly approach to the LTA and the Government’s slight relaxing of the country’s lock down at Melton Mowbray Tennis Club.

Members who have been in lockdown for the past eight weeks are now looking forward to getting back on the court for some exercise and to play the game they love.

Head Coach and assistant Di Burdett and Ryan Parmar are keeping an eye on things and ensuring that all members and non members adhere to all the safety procedures put in place by the club under the guidance of the LTA.

Both Di and Ryan will also be busy coaching on a one-to-one basis only.

Courts can be booked out for members or non members via the Melton Mowbray TC Facebook page, where all the information on booking and safety procedures are shown.

Club members Jo Anderson and friend Bridget Ingle were amongst the first to to book a court and both are looking forward to hitting a ball whilst exercising outdoors.

Club chairman Justin Horobin is delighted with the latest easing of the lockdown but is keen to stress that the club will be taking all precautions to ensure safety is paramount. The club is due to receive information from the Leicestershire LTA on their decision regarding the Summer Leagues.

At present it appears doubtful they will be completed and, if scrubbed, the LTA will then have to decide on Winter Leagues, but loving match play or not, people’s health and safety is far more important at present.

Off the court the club development team of Justin, Jason Wheatley and Brent Horobin have continued to press the club forward in its bid to have the courts resurfaced.

The club are nearing their goal and it has been a tough struggle against many factors but, thanks to council support, along with an endless list of supporters they are nearly there.
