Melton land county bowls treble

There was home success at the county indoor bowls finals as Melton clinched a hat-trick of titles.

Pete White and Shaun Stubbs won the County Two-Bowl Pairs to add to the over 60s pairs crown secured by Brian Boag and Ian White (pictured).

The men’s triples team of Chris Rodgers, Mel Bass and Don Welch also got in on the act last Wednesday.

They claimed the men’s triples title with a convincing 20–1 victory over Barwell in the final at Leicester IBC.

Barwell’s Barbara Lewis dominated the Leicestershire Ladies’ County Finals held at Melton and District IBC and Leicester IBC, winning five titles.

Barbara secured the singles with a 21–11 victory over Charnwood’s Jan Elliott before teaming up with Val Holbart to win the pairs final 27-10 against Sheila Alford and Jane Hudson (Church Gresley).

They also took the honours in the two-bowl pairs final, defeating Melton’s Marilyn Vye and Sue Dixon 20–7.

In the triples final, Barbara and Val, along with Gill Wonnacott, secured a 22-4 victory over Mae McHowat, Doreen Hulbert and Karen Winton (Charnwood IBC), and then completed the clean sweep in the fours as they joined forces with Julie Wilkins to beat Leicester 24–14.

The County Presentation Night will be held at Melton IBC on Saturday.
