All gave a good account of themselves in an entertaining match.

The start was very even with Hickman’s strong running showing promise.

Melton’s defence, with Pedlar having an excellent game at left-back, held firm against Loughborough’s skills, but debutant keeper Justin Harris had to make some smart saves to prevent an early score.

The pressure was beginning to tell and Loughborough split the Melton defence to take the lead.

The hosts conceded a second just before half-time to give them an uphill task.

Melton continued to work very hard in the second half with Houghton, Nash and Hyne combining well and they were unlucky not to score.

However, as the half progressed Loughborough exerted their superiority and scored three further goals which did little justice to Melton’s efforts.
