Melton Hockey Club ladies battle to draw at Loughborough

Melton Hockey Club ladies secured a deserved 2-2 at Loughborough.

The team coped well with the damp conditions and a water based pitch and settled into the changed formation.

The play was fairly even throughout the first half with both sides creating chances.

Loughborough took the lead but Melton fought back well to level things and could have taken the lead when Gemma Hewitt committed fully stretched and diving narrowly missed getting a touch.

But Loughborough converted a second from a penalty corner and went into the half time break two up.

The second half began in the same vein with Lizzie Hewitt and Bec Cramphorn beginning to control the midfield and linking well with attacks coming down both wings with strong play from Charlotte Collins and Charlie Fryday.

The forward pairing of Georgie and Gemma saw more of the ball in the second half and were able to put Loughborough under pressure.

Melton continued to build in the second half and strong performances from everyone eventually led to a well taken penalty corner on the stroke of the final whistle giving Melton a draw.”
