Melton Hockey Club: First XI bounce back against Westleigh

After a weekend to forget last week, Melton Hockey Club First XI dug deep and went some way to putting their season back on track on Saturday.

Newly-promoted Leicester Westleigh were the visitors and their confidence showed during a bright start.

It didn’t take long for this bright start to pay dividends, as the visitors took an early lead.

With the previous weekend’s 7-0 defeat playing on their minds, Melton could easily have panicked, but they showed good resolve to get back on the front foot.

The rest of the first half was spent with both teams trading attacks in an end-to-end game, although the defences held firm.

More of the same followed after the break with Melton guilty of being a little wasteful from short corners.

The Westleigh goalkeeper was made to work harder in the second half and eventually Melton’s greater threat was rewarded when Pollard converted Durrant’s cross to level the scores.

Both teams pressed to find a winner, with Melton surviving a few late scares as keeper Eden made two important saves.

At the final whistle, Melton were disappointed to have only taken one point which was testament to their improved performance.
