Melton Golf Club: Squires wins Past Captain's Trophy

The 2014 club captain, John Squires won the Past Captains Trophy at Melton Mowbray Golf Club with a one-under par score of 37 points.

A field of 17 former captains took part with Guy Rayson winning the under 70s division and Bob Barnes the over 70s, both with 36 points.

The competition was followed by a four-course evening meal.

* The October EWGA medal was contested by 16 ladies last Wednesday and played in two divisions.

The overall winner was Dorothy Jaggers, who also topped Division Two, with a nett 78.

Liz Clark was second in Division Two with nett 79 and Liz Snow’s nett 80 secured her third place as tough playing conditions reflected in the scores.

Division One winner Jean Moulds shot a nett 82 to finish two clear of runner-up Kathie Finn, while Drina Terzza (nett 86) was third.

* The Monday Morning Mingles on October 10 was won by Sandie Normanton and Phil Millward with a nett 32.2.

They finished 4.8 shots clear of joint runners-up Tom Eadon and Liz Clark and Haydn and Liz Snow with both pairs scoring nett 37.0. Third place was also shared by the parings of John Squires with Bettyne Norton, and Bob Like with Cheryl Osborne (nett 37.2).

This week’s Mingles was another tight contest.

Bob and Pat Barnes were runaway winners with a nett 43.8, more than four shots better than three sets of runners-up.

John and Denise Waldron, Haydn and Liz Snow, and Steve and Karen Middleton all scored nett 39.0. Alan and Drina Terzza were third with nett 39.6.
