Melton Golf Club: Snows storm to Monday Mingles title

The Monday Morning Mingles season finished at Melton Mowbray Golf Club last week with an end-of-season fourball Texas scramble, followed by a lunch and prize presentation.

The Texas scramble was won by Liz and Haydn Snow with Geoff and Liz Clark with a score of nett 41.2 ahead of runners-up Eddie and Gay Cham with Brendan Boyce and Ann Evans who shot a nett 43.0.

Steve and Karen Middleton with Alan and Drina Terzza were only a fraction back in third place with nett 43.7, while Julia and Terry Brown with Maureen Stapleford and Sam Wright completed the top four positions with nett 44.6

The minglers then enjoyed lunch followed by prizegiving for the morning’s competition and the season’s order of merit prizes presented by Mingles organiser Owen Cook.

The season-long order of merit had been closely contested all season and only seven points separated the top six places.

The overall winners and Monday Mingles champions were Haydn and Liz Snow with 58 points, two points ahead of runners-up Tom Eadon and Elaine Shelton.

Third-placed Bob Luke and Cheryl Osborne scored 55 points, one clear of Sam Wright and Maureen Stapleford in fourth.

Gay and Eddie Cham were fifth with 51 on countback from sixth-placed John Squires and Bettyne Norton.

* The first silverware of 2016 was up for grabs on Saturday when a superb field of 124 players competed for the Gerry Davies Trophy.

Richard South and Billy Kevan finished well clear in the betterball format with a total of 42 points.

Second and third places were decided by countback with Sam Pollard and David Poolan taking second spot from Mark Pedge and Dougie Bryce, both pairs having shot 38 points.

The two’s sweep was shared by Jon Baxter, John Harvey and Ricki Curtis.
