A healthy field of 132 players lined up at Melton Golf Club on Sunday for the Stilton Open, sponsored by Cropwell Bishop Creamery.

The tricky pin positions took their toll in the betterball stableford competition, but Melton pair Dave Timbrell and Bob Barnes took top prize with 42 points,

Countback decided the next two places with G. Bruce and D. Boardman edging out Cliff and James Daulby for second place, both teams shooting 41 points.

Jake Mogg and Jack Griffin were fourth with 40 points on countback from Ian Solloway and George Holland.

Malcolm Thompson was nearest the pin on the seventh, and Dave Murdoch came closest on the 14th, while the longest drive prize went to Rob Smith.

Malcolm was the only player to score a two on the day and won the entire two’s pot of £160.

Club captain Jack Inguanta presented the prizes and thanked sponsors Cropwell Bishop Creamery with every player taking home a wedge of Stilton.

After the match, lady captain Liz Snow thanked all of the Melton ladies who played in friendly matches during the season.

Melton winners: Liz Snow/Bettyne Norton 3-up, Denise Waldron/Cheryl Osborne 2 and 1.
