The 123 teams from 72 schools were representing the 10 School Sport and Physical Activity Networks (SSPANs), qualifying after winning their area finals.

The Olympic-style opening ceremony was hosted by Gaynor Nash who interviewed School Games Ambassador and Team GB para-athletics captain, Sam Ruddock.

Sam recently claimed shot put silver at the IPC European Athletics Championships.

The Summer Championships were the finale to the 2015/16 School Games programme and after 16 Super-Series Finals and the Spring and Summer Championships, Hinckley and Bosworth were named the overall 2015/16 School Games champions.

For Melton and Belvoir, Frisby Primary School were crowned county tri-golf champions, while there were kwik cricket silver medals for Brownlow and Bottesford Primary Schools in the Year 5 and 6 Girls, and Year 5 and 6 mixed competitions, respectively.

Bottesford and Stathern primary schools narrowly missed out on the podium with fourth places in the Year 5/6 girls’ football and Year 5/6 netball, while fifth-place finishes went to Waltham-on-the-Wolds (Y5/6 quicksticks hockey) and Sherard (Key Stage 2 sportsability).

Great Dalby Primary School finished seventh in the Y5/6 swimming and eighth in the Y3/4 mini tennis, and Redmile’s Y3/4 quicksticks hockey team also came eighth.
