Kevan named Melton Mowbray Golf Club's player of 2016

Melton Mowbray Golf Club held its presentation evening on Friday with all of the 2016 trophy and medal winners from all sections attending.

Club captain Jack Inguanta and lady captain Liz Snow presented the prizes with competitions chairman Pat Lee making the announcements.

Among the junior winners, Will Thompson won the Alan Munton Memorial Trophy as Junior Clubman of the Year, as well as the Jubilee Cup.

Jake Mogg landed the Bill Lodge Spring trophy and the Ray Elsome Cup, while James Cartwright took home the Ben Kerr Memorial Trophy, Junior Knockout Shield and the Junior Doubles Cup with Louis Woodcock who also won the Rabbits Cup.

James Daulby received a trophy treble of The Keightley Kerr Putter, Sam Weller Shield, and The Club Captain’s Trophy, Will Fairbrother won the Junior Captain’s Cup, and Ed Gough the Lady Captain’s Cup.

Among the men’s winners, Billy Kevan was named Player of the Year for his achievements throughout the year and his support of the club both on and off the course.

David Poolan was presented with The Race to Woodhall Spa trophy after winning the six-man final at the Lincolnshire course in October.

The major club championship trophies went to senior scratch champion Guy Rayson, club champion Sam Pollard and scratch knockout champion Jake Mogg.

Guy and Jake were also named the scratch team Players’ Player of the Year, and scratch team Captain’s Player of the Year, respectively.

Club vice-captain Glenn Price received the Interteam Challenge on behalf of the C Team.

* The last men’s qualifier of the year was played on Saturday, an individual stableford played from the white tees which was well supported by 58 golfers.

The good scores returned reflected the great condition of the course as the standard scratch dropped to 69.

Mike Catlin won overall on countback from junior member James Cartwright after both carded 39 points. Matt Thomson was third two points further back.

Jevan Goddard and Mike Catlin shared the two’s sweep.
