Hamilton Tennis Club: Crymble crowned first veterans singles champion

Hamilton Tennis Club's championships continued with the inaugural men's veterans singles competition.

In the semi-finals Selwyn Carter beat his doubles partner Graham Hall, while Nigel Crymble beat Steve Thompson and then went on to beat Selwyn in the final in straight sets 6-4, 6-4.

* On the Winter League scene the men’s first team recorded the best result of the week with an 8-0 whitewash win over Charnwood.

Scores: Ben MacTaggart/Jack Elliss W 6-0, 6-0; W 6-3, 6-4. Tom Elliss/Luke Smith W 6-1, 6-4; W 6-2, 6-0.

* The ladies’ fourth team defeated David Lloyd Third 6-2 with Jessi Jackson and Alison Stone winning maximum four sets.

Davina Adams and Libby Duncan won two for a comfortable victory.

* The men’s fourth team gained a 4-4 draw with David Lloyd Thirds despite the difficulties created by a late withdrawal because of injury.

Both pairs won two sets.

Scores: Will Harrison/Andre Stapelberg L 1-6, 3-6; W 6-4, 6-3. Barrie Farnsworth/Craig Tracey L 4-6, 3-6; W 6-4, 6-0.

* The other Hamilton teams playing this week were not so successful.

The ladies’ first team had a tough match against top team Loughborough Town, and despite three sets from Charlotte Griffin and Jess Gadsby, they lost 5-3.

* The men’s second team of Ben Catlin, Oliver Aley, Joe Jackson and Andy Douglas were whitewashed 8-0 by Syston Northfields first team, while the ladies’ third team of Polly Dolby, Emily Harrison, Eileen Merrison and Chris Stevens lost to Syston Northfields second team by the same scoreline.

* Coaching resumes on Saturday and the club is looking forward to having more juniors turn up now that all the various half-term school holidays have finished.

Once again all the sessions have been filled and players have doubled up in order to allow all those who wish to have a coaching session to join in.
