Melton Golf Club ladies enjoy home advantage

THURSDAY’S storms caused great concern at Melton Golf Club with 120 golfers due to play the ladies Am-Am the next day.

But the course recovered well and a successful day went ahead spearheaded by lady captain Yvette Joyce. The weather was fine but the wind grew stronger which was reflected in the scores returned.

Melton GC members took the first two prizes with the Lady Captain’s team, Beig Agus More, winning with 78 points from runners-up 3 plus One who scored 77 points.

l The seniors and ladies played a mixed greensome stableford for the Jack Wildman Trophy.

The weather was mixed but didn’t deter 40 competing. John Squires and Cheryl Osborne won with 40 points, five points clear of senior captain Owen Cook and lady captain Yvette Joyce. Tom Eadon and Barbara Hamston were third with 34 points.

l The par/bogey men’s Ludlow Bowl was won by Adrian Stokes with +3 on countback from Rob Smith, while Brian Geeson (+2) was third.

The second round of the Compton Cup was won by Declan McAuley on +3. Runner-up Paul Hodgkinsion finished level, and Vic Cooper was third on -1.

l The midweek medal was won by Jon Baxter with a superb nett 64, three shots better off than second-placed Dave Moss.

Gavin Baxter was third with nett 70 and fourth place went to Bill Hurrell (nett 71ocb). Best gross score was Colin Mitchell’s 73, while Eddie Cham, Andrew Dul and Haydn Snow shared the two’s sweep.

l The foursome medal Clarke Cup on Saturday was won by Jon Baxter and Rob Smith with a nett 71.5, two shots ahead of runners-up Peter and Dave Poolan. Brian Haines and Doug Woolley (nett 75) were third.

l The ladies’ Jol Calder Salver went to Elaine Shelton (nett 71), finishing five shots clear of runner-up Leah Radford. Fay Hutton was third, one further shot adrift.
