Action returned to Melton Mowbray Golf Club today.

After weeks of courses sitting empty across the country, players were able to tee off once again following the latest guidelines put forward by the Government on Sunday.

“The management committee and staff at Melton Mowbray Golf Club have been working hard over the last few weeks to ensure that the club is in the position to allow people to play golf safely as soon as possible,” a statement read.

“We have developed a set of procedures to safeguard our members and staff.

“Tee times will be set further apart, less people will be allowed to play together, shared equipment such as rakes will be removed and social distancing will be adhered to at all times.

“By doing this people will be able to take exercise and enjoy the fresh air safely.”

It is expected that the demand for golf will be high over the coming weeks, and Melton Mowbray GC are hoping this could attract new members from the area.

“We are keen to extend this opportunity to as many of our local residents as possible but are aware restrictions are likely to mean that only members can play,” the statement continued.

“We have therefore put together a range of new membership options, catering from absolute beginners through to experienced golfers to make golf more accessible in these challenging times.

“We are widely recognised by our members and visitors as a friendly club and we would love to welcome new members.

“We would like to thank Melton Borough Council for their help in distributing the Business Support Grant and to Sport England who have awarded us a Community Emergency Fund Grant.

“Both of these awards will help us to sustain the club through these difficult times as we have obviously lost a lot of income through closure of the clubhouse and cancellation of visitors and competitions.”

Monthly packages, including lessons, cost £50 for adults and £35 for under 18s. There are also twilight packages and rates for students available.
