UPDATE: Feel-good factor spreads to Melton Market as Foxes fans continue historic Premier League title celebrations

Foxes fans in Melton are still stunned after their team won the Premier League last night for the first time in their history.

The amazing achievement is being regarded by many as the greatest sporting achievement of all time, with the Blue Army listed at 5000-1 by bookmakers to win the league at the start of the season.

There were scenes of sheer jubilation in Melton last night, with crowds gathering outside Foxes striker Jamie Vardy’s home in Melton where City players watched the Chelsea versus Tottenham game which finished 2-2, meaning Leicester won their first Premier League title with two games to spare.

The crowds of people partying in the road led to police closing the A606 over safety concerns.

Among those joining in the celebrations in Melton this morning was Melton Market fruit and veg stallholder Lennie Greet whose stall sported bunting and flags. Rosettes marking the Foxes amazing achievement were also being snapped up by customers.

Lennie, who has been a Leicester City season ticket holder for 20 years on and off, watched last night’s pivotal Spurs versus Chelsea match in a pub in Blaby.

He said: “The pub just erupted at the end, it was amazing. I believe Leicester were 5000-1 to win the league at the start of the season - I should have put a pound on it!

“Leicester winning the Premier League will give hope to all of the smaller clubs in English football. I still can’t believe they’ve won it, it’s surreal.

“If Jamie Vardy wants to come down today I’ll treat him to a punnet of strawberries!”

The feel-good factor had spread to Foxes fans of all ages who visited the market today - including 16-month old Jensen Naylor, from Bourne, who was swathed in a blue and white blanket.

His grandma, Alfreda, said: “It’s good for the underdogs to win something for once. It’s fantastic.”
