“Things look promising!” Holwell Sports chairman Graham Lewin keen for club to pick up where they left off when football can resume

Holwell Sports chairman Graham Lewin hopes the club have everything in place to enjoy a good season... when football is able to return.

Mr Lewin has given his firm backing to manager Neil Miller and his squad, who were enjoying positive momentum before the season was ended abruptly.

“I was Neil’s manager in the reserves at Holwell when he played here, so I’ve known him a long time,” Mr Lewin told The Times.

“He came in halfway through the season before last and saved us. So he deserved his chance.

“Neil gets the club, Holwell Sports’ history and how we like to play. He’s got the team playing well and things look promising.”

Sports enjoyed a strong start to the new year and were pushing for FA Cup qualification when the COVID-19 pandemic ended the campaign early.

“We started last season slowly but after Christmas we went on a good run, away from the relegation zone and up the table,” Mr Lewin continued.

“We felt we were in a good position to get into the top eight and qualify for the FA Cup, but unfortunately that doesn’t look like we will be in the cup next season.”

Mr Lewin now hopes that momentum can continue next season, adding: “The lads are loyal and want to play. They like the set up and the facilities.”
