Pierpoint to meet executive

THE new chairman of Asfordby Amateurs JFC Barrie Pierpoint is to meet Asfordby Amateurs Sports and Social Club’s executive committee on Friday to discuss the future of the threatened sports facility.

The former Leicester City chief executive, as well as Melton Council officers, attended Sunday’s emergency open meeting to recruit volunteers and safeguard the site’s future.

The committee is desperate for help to run the popular Hoby Road centre and has said it could be sold on the open market without new blood to take on its day-to-day running. No firm offers of help have come forward since Sunday.

The social club was formed as a not-for-profit organisation in 1998 and is used by an estimated 500 adults and children each week.
