Melton Town are hoping to build upon their impressive opening-day performance as they host Birstall United Social this evening.

Town kicked off the campaign with a 7-3 victory over Wellingborough Whitworth before Saturday's contest against Burton Park Wanderers was postponed due to a case of COVID-19 in the opposition camp.

However, Melton made the most of their day, with manager Tom Manship holding a training session before watching Birstall beat Raunds Town 4-0.

"It was frustrating on one hand, but we all got down to the ground an trained for two-and-a-half hours and worked on a lot of stuff," Manship said.

"Every game we're looking to build on what we've done. They're a good outfit, I watched them on Saturday and they'll be a test - everybody will be in this league.

"Birstall are a tough one. It wont be an easy game. They took a point off us last year.

"Players they've got sighed on are some of our ex players as well. They're going to be a diffcult test and we have to give them respect."

One thing that has impressed Manship so far this season has been his side's performances in both the win over Whitworth and FA Cup defeat to Quorn.

"To score seven goals in any game is a positive, and there was lots of posititve stuff.

"We just need to build on that and keep growing. Both games, Quorn as well, I've been happy with the performance."

Kick off will be at 7.45pm.
