Melton Town hammer Rushden and Higham United

Melton Town turned on the attacking style in the second half to crush Rushden and Higham United 7-1 in Division One of the United Counties League.

The visitors, who also beat Rushden 7-1 in their final match last season, had only been leading 2-0 at the break.

The rout began on 12 minutes when Latham Hammond made no mistake from the spot after Tom Harris was fouled by Ben Peaks..

It was 2~0 when Zak Munton tapped home from four yards after a good cut-back.

Hammond made it 3-0 on 53 minutes following a perfect pass from Harris.

Just 50 seconds later Munton made it 4-0 after a blocked cross fell kindly.

Munton got his third with a half volley before three more goals came in the final ten minutes.

Harris rifled a screamer into the top corner, before Louis McMahon pulled a consolation goal back for Rushden.

The scoring was complete in the closing minutes as Melton made it 33 goals in just six games.
