Melton Mowbray keep the pace in Senior League promotion bid

Melton Mowbray maintained their pursuit of the Senior League's top two with a comfortable win against the league's second-bottom side on Saturday.

Adam Bishop, Aidan Black and Ashley Palfreyman were all on target for Melton in their 4-1 victory against Lutterworth Athletic Reserves at Hoby Road.

But there was no change at the top of the Premier Division as all of the top four sides won.

Leaders Sileby were given a fright before edging out third-bottom Allexton and New Parks 2-1, but second-placed Birstall were more emphatic 5-0 winners against Earl Shilton.

Melton remain 14 points behind Sileby with five games in hand and trail Birstall by 10 points having played three games less.

They have a chance to make up some ground as they face two games in four days.

They travel to Allexton on Saturday before hosting Kirby Muxloe Res on Tuesday evening (kick-off 7.30pm).
